Suitable Environment vs. LED Lighting Design

LIGHTING DESIGN AND INSTALLATION, LIGHT SOURCE LUX DISTRIBUTION, ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING DESIGN

Environment Lighting

In the quantitative design of lighting, there are too many factors and indicators considering, and which one should be considered first? What should be a reasonable design steps? How can designers create a comfortable light environment? Just like teaching students in accordance with their aptitude; treating the disease requires the right medicine, it is the same for lighting design. In different situations, the demands for light parameters are different, so what we have to do is to analyze the specific problem.

As a lighting designer, before the actual “fencing”, the first thing to do is to know ourselves and the others, just as the teacher should master the book knowledge before the class, the doctor must understand the efficacy of various drugs before writing down the prescription. Therefore, for lighting design, the first step is the collection and classification of large-scale environmental data, including the light source ontology capabilities and the requirements for different application scenarios.

The light source ontology capabilities include optical frequency, spectrum and light distribution. For optical frequency, we mainly study high-frequency driving; for spectrum, we need to understand brightness, chromaticity and radiant power; and in light distribution, we divide near field distribution and far field distribution, etc.

With this information, we need to give a reasonable choice of light source for specific application scenarios. Just as in commercial lighting, different application scenarios, different requirements for color temperature and illumination density, can refer to the following figure.

In the home environment, different places such as living room, bedroom, kitchen, restaurant, etc., are not the same in terms of the illumination angle of the light source. Please refer to here.

After the collection and classification of environmental big data are completed, it is necessary to comprehensively analyze the positive and negative effects of different light sources in distinctive application scenarios. What kinds of light source are suitable for the situation, the lighting designers must be fully confident in knowing what to do.

Next, the lighting designer needs to consider the problems from the perspective of the users. First of all, we must take care of the user’s visual experiences and satisfy the users’ visual needs for lighting. The following four points should be achieved:

1. Professional color reproduction.
2. The color temperature light source required by the situation.
3. Non-distortion of color on the surface of the object.
4. Frequency variation of health requirements.

In addition, the lighting also needs to make people feel comfortable, no glare, softly distributed, and clearly display. Lighting design should also be concerned with the user’s psychology. One is to attract attention; the emphasis light source is used to irradiate specific objects to be no glare and low illumination so that the object is clearer and to improve the object surface color at the same time. The second is to create an atmosphere; the color temperature affects the environment atmosphere, the special effects requirements different, then the frequency light rate changes are different, and the distinctive light distributions give people different feelings.
Finally, the lighting design also takes care of the user’s physiological experience. First of all, we must ensure the health of lighting, avoid bad lighting changes, poor light distribution which would result in glare. As reducing blue light damage, it also needs to prevent the light source from affecting the body’s melatonin secretion as well, to avoid causing insomnia. Secondly, we must pay attention to the coordination of light and human functions, and the color temperature should conform to the physiological changes.

Lighting design is especially important for humans. A good light environment can make our lives healthier and better!
