UPRtek Spectrophotometry
Introduction
UPRtek provides project-based spectrophotometry solutions for industrial, government, medical and research applications.
Spectrophotometry is used to identify materials and their characteristics based on how they interact with light: absorption, reflection, transmission, and fluorescence.
What is a Spectrometer, Spectrophotometer, and Spectroradiometer?
UPRtek MT-1000 Spectrophotometer
Most spectrophotometer applications need customization.
Over 90% of spectrophotometry applications require specialization or customization. This is because the needs are usually diverse, complex and unique for every industry.
Spectrophotometry used with Fuel Marker
Applications used with spectrophotometry might include:
- Fuel marker detection
- Supply material verfication
- Verification of printed material, banknotes, designer labels
- Pharmaceuticals validation
- Water purity analysis
- Surface color matching
- Recycled material identification
Challenges in Spectrophotometry
- The molecular characteristics of materials are complex and complicated by inherent quantum properties.
- Spectrophotometers use an internal light source, that is difficult to maintain for accuracy and stability with the correct wavelength, intensity, angle, and reflection.
- Weak absorption levels or fluorescent signals from the materials are difficult for sensors to detect and measure.
- Maintenance of spectrophotometers can be difficult and costly.
- Deployment in the field, including training is costly and complex.
- Most spectrophotometers are designed for laboratory use and are awkward for field use.
- Off-the-shelf spectrophotometers are too basic for industrial needs.
The complexities of material molecular properties.
- Materials exhibit varying molecular and quantum properties and necessitate variations in hardware.
- Liquids and solids require different types of apparatus.
- Detecting the fluorescence of various chemicals demands different types of sensors.
- Material absorption and transmission may require unique light source intensities.
- Even measuring different aspects of the same material might also require adjustable features.
Molecular properties present challenges in Spectrophotometry
UPRtek has an arsenal of options to deal with material variability, including adjustable light source wavelengths and intensities, varying detection modes, and strategies to enhance signals. Different types of sensors are implemented depending on half-bandwidth accuracy needed and sensor sensitivity requirements.
Spectrophotometry imaging is used to detect biological markers.
Measuring the reflectivity of materials.
Accurately measuring the reflectance of materials, especially those with complex surfaces or varying textures, is difficult due to light scattering.
UPRtek spectrophotometers will meticulously direct scattered light through diffusers and optical lens, converging at pinpoint sensor locations to record the appropriate reflectance with high confidence.
Measuring absorption, fluorescence.
Materials with low absorption or fluorescence levels can lead to misidentification.
For low absorption, it’s important to utilize high-sensitivity detectors and noise reduction techniques such as signal averaging and lock-in amplification to enhance signals.
For low signal fluorescence detection, it’s necessary to employ high-quality optical filters to filter out noise or unnecessary colors, ensuring accuracy in preserving the original fluorescent spectra. High quality sensors are also needed to detect and measure narrow bandwiths of light of single-digit wavelength nanometers.
Other notable UPRtek features
- UPRtek emphasizes handheld or portable form factors to facilitate offsite testing and field work.
- We provide solutions-oriented spectrophotometry to government and state agencies, academic institutions, manufacturing companies, and medical facilities.
- We assist clients in establishing protected cloud data and transmission for various interfaces and data transfer methods.
- UPRtek products are engineered with an emphasis on modularity. This means all components are designed into distinct subsystems that are easily diagnosed and replaced, avoiding excessive downtime for time-critical applications.
- Data accumulation and interpretation cannot be underestimated. Advanced statistical methodology and other tools digest complex spectral data to produce the appropriate results for customer assessment. This enables the rapid, reliable, and consistent identification of material patterns.
Summary
Spectrophotometers are powerful tools for material analysis, but there is not a one-size-fits-all device for all industries and applications. The procedures and materials in question are too complex for that.
Government agencies, research organizations, tech companies, and medical organizations are turning to UPRtek for the spectral expertise needed to solve the difficult problems in spectrophotometry – UPRtek brings together the right methodologies, technologies, and ideologies, both hardware and software in order to allow our customers to identify materials quickly and with high confidence.
